Thanks for a Great Year

As we approach a new year, I want to thank each of you for your support. 2008 was a year well worth remembering, including the release of a third CD and a reunion with a dear friend. The best musical times of the year were those occasions when I got to join friends on stage and in living room and on back porch to make music. It is always fun to hook up with Ye Olde Folkz Trio (with Greg O'Haver and Eli Beth), Roots and Branches, and Patchwork (Rick Garrett and Holly Smith) for musical shenanigans of all sorts. In addition, this year also brought the opportunity to appear on Patchwork's debut CD.

Looking ahead to '09, the year kicks off with returns to some favorite haunts.

  • On Friday, January 9, I'll be back at The Lighthouse Cafe in Alexandria, playing from 6:00 until 7:00. Deanne Carroll and the folks at the Lighthouse are always a gracious and fun-loving group of folks.
  • Then on the following Friday, January 16, Patchwork and I will load up the truck and head to Battleground for a gig at the Battleground General Store. When the three of us get together, we never know what to expect. I always end up putting the set list aside and just going wherever the spirit leads us. One thing we know for sure, though. It may be unexpected, but it will be fun!
  • On January 30, after the dawn of my second half century, it's back to The Bread Ladies in Greenfield. As many of you know, I love this place. Music at The Bread Ladies will start at 6:30. Enjoy some good food, and we'll get Rocky Raccoon and Five Pounds of Possum worked into the set list.

Thank you again for letting me share bits of music and life with you in 2008. I hope that your Christmas was indeed merry and that the new year will bring you great joy and hope.

Blessings,
Dean

This Saturday at The Bread Ladies

Come for the chicken salad; stay for the music.

This Saturday I'll be making music at The Bread Ladies in Greenfield from 12:00 until 3:00. (I'm not kidding about the chicken salad. It is over the top good!)

Grab a break from holiday preparations and enjoy some good food and live acoustic music at The Bread Ladies this Saturday.

December News

November ended with a fun show at The Bean Cup with my friends Eli Beth and Greg O'Haver (Ye Olde Folkz Trio). We had a good time playing for a full house of folks who seemed to be having a good time as well. I've put a couple of video clips from the evening on YouTube if you want to look and listen.

Now we're into December, and this weekend starts with a Holiday Fun Frolic at Boulevard Place Cafe (at the corner of Boulevard Pl. and W 42nd St. in Indy) this Friday. I'm honored to join some very talented Indianapolis artists like The Shirtless Biddles, Stasia Demos, Chad Mills and Jason Hathaway at the BPC. There is a $5 cover for this one, and the music starts at 7:00. Dates for other shows are on the calendar, but between now and Christmas, I'll be returning to Bookmama's in Irvington, the Lighthouse Cafe and The Bread Ladies.

The web site (http://www.deanphelpsmusic.com/) has gotten a bit of an update. It has a slightly different look, but the bigger change is that you can now buy CDs and cassettes directly off the web site. Yes, I said cassettes. A long time ago in a galaxy far away, that's how we stored music. My first recording, Going Over Home, is just about sold out on CD, but lots of cassettes are still available. Think of it this way, for just $4 you can own a little piece of history.

Please visit the music page and give a listen, maybe pick up a couple of CDs for yourself or your friends. They make great Christmas gifts, and if you buy a set, they also make great coasters!

If you're in the area, come out to Boulevard Place Cafe this Friday and catch a great evening of live acoustic music.

Blessings,
Dean
